Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 2 cups (about 2-3 ounces) dried hibiscus or jamaica flowers
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

To Prepare

  • In a 6- or 8-quart saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add flowers, stir and simmer over medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool a bit.
  • Strain mixture into a large container (with a lid to cover later), and add the sugar and lime juice. Stir until well-dissolved.
  • Once the concentrate has cooled, cover well and refrigerate. It will keep in the refrigerator for months.

My Grandmother always had a pitcher of this when we visited her in Laredo, Texas. My tea never turned out as good, because I never knew to make the concentrate first!

Do you rinse the flowers first ? I brought fresh hibiscus from Mexico and love love love. Sometimes little particles so wondered if should rinse. Also how long can you leave concentrate or diluted drink in refrigerator ?

    Thank you

It is a good idea to rinse them first, just run them below the faucet and clean them gently with your fingers. You can keep the concentrate in the fridge at least 3 months. Enjoy!

You can drink it without sugar, would be a bit bitter but the flavor is still good. Or you can add some Stevia if you prefer.

Hola Laura! El limon le da muy buen sabor a la jamaica, pero si no te gusta, no lo uses, ya sabes que es deliciosa de todas maneras. Saludos a CA!

The title says this is a “concentrate ” but I don’t see directions on how to dilute the finished product.
