AHmazing!!! I’ve made it for potlucks at work and EVERYONE, yes, E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E on the 20+ member team loved it. Now, it’s a must that I bring it to every potluck, even though I sent them a link to the recipe. A couple of people just tried to barter for it yesterday (if make it for them, they’d give me a birria plate from my favorite place, and the other for home-made tamales).

I had initially left out the mint and celery because I had forgotten to buy them. It still tasted so good that I just continued to make it that way. I change up the grapes depending on availability but I always like to include black ones.

I love this recipe because the flavors are so unique – sweet and salty with a little kick from the serrano and freshness from the citrus…and the cumin adds depth and complexity. The dressing truly exemplifies the saying ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. All the ingredients come together and create magic.

    Thank you, Pati.

This is delicious! It’s too bad the name is so misleading though. I almost overlooked the recipe because I assumed it would be vinegar-y. In my opinion it’s nothing at all like pickled anything! As I said, it’s really wonderful— you should try it…

Hello Pati! I made this salad and everyone loved it with tilapia, so refreshing. Grapes are one of my favorite fruits and I love the idea of using them in another application other than just snacking on them. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes. Irma G

    Best salad ever!
It took me a while to track down Cotton Candy grapes, but now that I have, I am addicted to the flavours in this salad! Such a great combination, the cumin seeds really add a special touch. I love cumin in all its forms, but would never have thought to add it to a grape salad!!
Thank you so much for this recipe, Patti!

This was delicious, my mother affectionately calls this “Mexican Chaat” and said the flavor are akin to the Desi street snack found in the Indian Subcontinent . It has that same salty, sweet, sour taste filled with earthy spices and fresh herb minus yoghurt component.

An amazing recipe! Thank you for sharing!

My daughter/son-in-law are vegan. Any suggestions on accompany dish?

    1. Suzanne M

      Mar 13

For a vegan version, you could use extra firm tofu (drained on paper towels in the fridge) with the chile rub and grill it a short time. You could also add a rinsed can of chickpeas or beans to the grape salad and make a stir fry with fresh veggies using the chile rub seasonings. Or add the beans to the stir fry. Just reduce salt if the canned vegs have salt added.

I’m making this salad to go with your pork chop recipe. I was thinking that this would be great with a cucumber instead of the grapes. Or instead of lime and orange – use Rangpur limes (they are a cross between a lime and tangerine). We love your show. I especially loved your recent time in the Sonoran desert – I used to live in Tucson and in Sells – it brought back lots of memories. Can’t wait to travel again!!

I made the chuletas de puerco con chile and the grape salad. Really quite elegant. But It needed something on the side. Not really a “rice and beans” kind of meal. Any suggestions?

Well, I served it with this chile rubbed pork chop http://patijinich.com/pati_2020/chile-rubbed-pork-chop/ but you can do it with a chicken milanesa like this one http://patijinich.com/pati_2020/dressed-up-chicken-milanesa/ or with some fish like this http://patijinich.com/pati_2020/tikin-xic/ Enjoy!
